Tuning a Skewed-Blade Rabbet Block Plane

1 A new skewed-blade rabbet block plane after a few strokes on sandpaper mounted on a granite block. The light areas in this photo are are the high areas that have contacted the sandpaper: behind the throat under the blade where pressure of the lever cap has pushed the area down, a small area at the front of the plane, and another small area at the upper right of the photo (three points make a plane—no pun intended). No part of the sole of the plane at the mouth is making contact, limiting the ability to get a very fine shaving.
